MTN rolling out Standard Bank's network infrastructure

Standard Bank South Africa has awarded MTN Business, a wholly owned division of MTN, the contract to rollout the African network infrastructure footprint. The bank, which under Stanbic has a presence in 17 countries across the continent, required the successful provider to ensure maximum uptime and low latency and guarantee data delivery back to South Africa without interruption to business operations.

“Certainly, it was evident from the start that due to its African presence and the rollout of all the current cable systems available that it would be able to meet our objectives and deliver a measurable and valuable business outcome for Standard Bank,” says Ken Holtshousen at Standard Bank.

Combined satellite and fibre optic networks a key element

According to Angela Gahagan, executive at MTN Business, the objective of this solution is to provide an excellent communications infrastructure that will give Standard Bank real time access to application and management systems. “A key element of the contract is to provide combined satellite and fibre optic networks, from countries to South Africa, while providing a product suite to meet their valued customers' needs,” she said.

“The product suite and network across Africa will ensure that many more customers will be able to take advantage of this leading design and infrastructure from the most densely populated to the most remote areas.”

The MTN Business Solutions products range from access services like wireless, fibre, satellite and leased line, hosting services, software as a service (SaaS) to convergence and fixed to mobile solutions.
