New look and feel of Rand Show delights visitors

The Rand Show was once again held during the Easter school holidays in April 2010, celebrating its 115th year. The show was first staged in Johannesburg in 1895 and is under new ownership in 2010. Oasys Innovations supplied the infrastructure for this eleven-day show.

The build up for the show took place over a period of six days, during which the 6000m2 exhibition stands and 3800m2 marquees were set up. Oasys also built a media centre, which included walling, furniture and counters. In addition, the South African Chef Association's demonstration area, which included seating for 200 people, the stage, draping and full audio-visual equipment, provided spectators with an opportunity to view live cooking shows and sharpen their own culinary skills.

To accommodate the management of the show, a temporary service office was installed, which was operational throughout the duration of the show. The sizes of marquees that were set up ranged from 30m2 to 1350m2, with double glass doors and cassettes.

Says Richard Emery, Chief of Operations of Oasys Events, "The Rand Show is one of the larger shows for which we provide infrastructure. Through being associated with a show that has existed for more than a hundred years, Oasys has gained valuable experience over the last thirty years and we were well positioned to return our own experience as a value added component drawn from the diversity of our company."

Says Perusha Singh, spokesperson for the Rand Show, "The Johannesburg Expo Centre bought the brand from Kagiso Exhibitions and has taken a new direction by returning its focus to family entertainment, which included the body and soul fayre and home emporium, animal exhibitions, stage shows, an international food festival and a theme park."
