The GL events Oasys, Joy of Jazz experience

The much anticipated annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz event took place this year from 22 to 24 August in the Newtown Precinct, and as in previous years continued to raise the standard in the South African live music and jazz sector. GL events Oasys provided top of the range infrastructure solutions including an impressive double-decker marquee to host the elite for a luxurious hospitality experience.

The event celebrates fifteen years of success in 2013 and has over the years been instrumental in putting South Africa on the international jazz map. Over the three days the event attracts an audience of 23,000 to nine venues to enjoy entertainment by a multitude of international and local talents.

"With over 8700 m² of infrastructure supplied in total, this is an event of tremendous scale for organisers, suppliers and contractors alike. All and all it takes approximately three weeks to build up. GL events Oasys have been involved for the past three years and we were very proud to showcase our double decker marquee at this event for the first time this year. It is a top of the range structure that matches the standard and calibre of the event's overall offering," says Patrick Cronning, business development manager at GL events Oasys. He has been involved with the project for the last three years and has seen the event develop and evolve. He believes that 2013 was unmatched in quality execution and operation.

"We supplied 2600 m² of the total structure, more than double in previous years, and had 25 staff members working on this project at any given time throughout. In addition to the double decker marquee we were also responsible for the Conga stage area as well as a number of smaller structures to accommodate radio stations. It is no secret that GL events Oasys marquees are of superb quality and it was wonderful to see it come to life in such a magnificent setting with the buzzing atmosphere," Patrick concludes.

The staging of the Joy of Jazz in the Newtown Precinct has played an integral part in the regeneration of the inner city, having had significant benefits in helping to shape the future of Johannesburg, and contributing to the city's changing creative and cultural landscape.

We congratulate T Musicman for producing such a successful event, and we believe the City of Joburg will be challenged to provide more space to the festival, noting the phenomenal growth.
