Business Day / Business & Arts of South Africa Awards 2002

The closing date for the 2002 Business Day / BASA Awards has been extended to the 14th March. These awards are presented on an annual basis to businesses that have supported or sponsored the arts in an innovative and effective manner.

Projects, artists and organisations and business sponsors that have mutually benefited from a partnership between 1 January and 31 December 2002 are encouraged to send through their entries. The focus is on a partnership that goes beyond a monetary sponsorship and has benefited both the sponsor and recipient.

As sponsorship continues to grow these awards are intended to identify the businesses that support the arts in any genre be it in cash or kind, they illustrate just how effective and viable the arts are as a communication tool for a business while at the same time elevating the profile of arts in the country.

Twelve awards will be presented including the Chairman's Award for sustained excellence; this is made at the discretion of BASA's Chairman. An independent panel of judges will evaluate the success of each sponsorship, taking into account the innovative nature of the partnership, and objectives achieved

Both the sponsoring company and arts organisation that may complete the nomination form, except in the Strategic Sponsorship category, which needs to be completed by the sponsoring business itself.

BASA was launched in 1997 as a joint initiative between the Department of Arts and Culture and the business sector, a mandate to promote and encourage sustainable partnerships between business and arts, these awards ensure that the business sector is recognised for their support of the arts, and at the same time lift the profile of the arts.
