    SABC condemns Sunday Times headline

The SABC and group CEO Dali Mpofu yesterday, Sunday, 4 May 2008, released a statement condemning yesterday's Sunday Times headline ‘Cabinet plots against me: SABC boss'.

The statement in full reads as follows:

The headline does not represent a true reflection of what transpired in Parliament and it is not corroborated by the story itself. In a response to a question, Adv. Mpofu told Parliament that he has received various pieces of information and some of them point to Executive interference from “someone” high up who gave an instruction that the CEO must be removed.

This utterance doesn't at all refer to Cabinet, but to an individual high up who happens to be a member of Cabinet. The Group CEO wants to indicate that he stands by what he said in Parliament and would only be in a position to reveal the identity of the individual concerned at the appropriate time and forum. The Group CEO also wants to indicate that he does not believe that the individual was acting on behalf of Cabinet or any other constitutional body.

The insinuation that the statement was referring to Cabinet is false and is intended to create confusion in the minds of the Citizen and divert attention from the real issues. We would therefore want to condemn this headline and it's [sic] insinuations with the contempt that it deserves.

Management would also like to reiterate that they are united on this matter as indicated in a statement issued on the 15th of April 2008 and by various members of Management in Parliament.
