Oasys Innovations provides world-class support for 118th Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Cape Town

The South African Parliament invited the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to hold its 118th Assembly at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), from 13 to 18 April 2008. Delegates from 130 countries visited South Africa this week, to attend this year's session. Oasys Innovations was contracted by Parliament to provide infrastructure at both Cape Town International Airport and the CTICC, through the Oasys office in Cape Town.

Says Oasys Innovations Cape Town Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Kennedy: “We provided a reception marquee, erected and furnished by Oasys, at Cape Town International Airport. The marquee spanned 50m x 20m and was divided into two sections, the first for hosting the delegates and the second to receive and dispatch their luggage. The arriving delegates were taken to the marquee, fully equipped with air-conditioning, luggage and ablution facilities, on arrival. They were served light refreshments in an executive setting furnished by Oasys and offered an opportunity to relax, while their luggage was received and dispatched, before being taken to their various hotels.”

President Thabo Mbeki, Speaker Ms. Baleka Mbete and the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms Asha-Rose Migiro attended the inaugural ceremony on Sunday 13 April. Oasys set up the infrastructure for the CTICC registration, business centre and the office infrastructure for the conference attended by over 1600 delegates. Says Kennedy: “Oasys has also provided the infrastructure for the Assembly to be held at the CTICC, encompassing various events from the inaugural ceremony, to press conferences and panel discussions. This assisted our Parliament in delivering an Assembly that highlighted South Africa as a committed partner in facilitating international dialogue.”

In supporting both local and international media covering the conference and the events surrounding it, the broadcast facilities and electrical infrastructure provided by Oasys were of world-class quality. Grant Faiers, Operations Manager for Oasys Cape Town concludes: “Oasys Innovations has been praised by Parliament's local organising committee for the work they have put towards making the project a success.”
