Says Kennedy: “Martin joins us from one of our customers with a wealth of experience in the fields of logistics management and business development. The hiring business is at the core of our competence and constitutes a large chunk of our sales and of our asset base of around R75 million. Most of our new investments are for equipment for hire and includes carpets, marquees and furniture as well as the rehabilitation of existing stock.”

Swanepoel cut his teeth in the capital equipment, financial and ICT sectors specializing in client acquisition and project execution. He says: “I was given lots of opportunities to gain hands on experience with companies in sectors such as cable supplies, computers and telecommunication to learn the strategic parts of sales, logistics, customer relationship management and business development. My financial orientation - short and long term financing - was shaped when I spent time with a financial institution.”

Commenting on the exhibitions and events industry, Swanepoel says that people not directly involved with the industry have no idea about the stress levels brought about by one show deadline after the other. “Project management and supply chain solutions are strategic to this business. Some of the exhibitions that we have supplied equipment on hire include Automechanica, Johannesburg Easter Festival, Matchmakers, Mega Media, Hobby X, Bridal Africa, Hostex, Gardenex - to mention a few.”

Swanepoel says that his priority for Oasys Hiring is to identify new components that will add value to customer presentations at exhibitions for organisers and end-users. “In addition I will concentrate on enhancing existing systems so that we can stay on top of managing the various processes associated with the exhibitions and events industry.”
