Oasys supports local soul diva

South Africa's diverse and dynamic arts and culture heritage is one of its richest and most important resources, with the capacity to generate significant economic and social benefits for the nation. Although still in its developmental stage, the South African music industry is demonstrating rapid growth and is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the international music industry. With limited resources, local artists often struggle to get recognition and opportunities to record their music.

Oasys Innovations, a leading supplier to the events and exhibition industry recently demonstrated their support of the South African music industry by supplying sound and lighting equipment for Nomfusi and the Lucky Charms at a showcase gig in Johannesburg.

Nomfusi has shared the stage with some of the biggest local and international names in the entertainment world, including music greats such as Hugh Masekela, Judith Sephuma and Bebe Wynans. Her music can be described as a unique and exciting blend of Sohpiatown, American gospel and Motown.

Says Craig Browning, chief operations officer of Oasys AV: “We are proud to support local artists who demonstrate incredible talent. The South African music industry is growing at a rapid pace and it is great to be a part of and support such a dynamic industry.”

The aggregate growth of the music industry, coupled with the increased popularity and exposure of local genres and the variety of initiatives underway to bolster the local music industry, has provided the foundations for potentially explosive growth. This will depend on an appropriate degree of commitment and resources from the various role players.

“Companies in the entertainment and hospitality industry need to work together towards advancing and promoting our local talent. We were happy to sponsor Nomfusi with sound and lighting equipment for her showcase at Moloko. Included in the rig were Martin Mac 250 entours and Mac 300 washes, UV lighting and a smoke machine for that ‘romantic' effect,” says Browning.

Says Nomfusi Gotyana: “Without the support of Oasys AV and other local companies our showcase would not have been possible. As a result of our performance we managed to secure a record deal with Universal Records and received great coverage on e.tv's youth news show, Frenzy, which broadcasts to over 2.5 million viewers.”
