2009 gears Oasys for 2010

Following a successful 2009, Oasys Innovations has geared itself for continued growth in 2010 and beyond. The company was established in 1977 and has since grown its assets to well over R100 million, a consolidated workforce of nearly 400 members and a potential of more than 500 projects for this year.

Says chief executive Brian Kennedy: “The business did not simply come our way but we had to engage into extensive marketing activities. While having portfolios in place for all our employees, staff members were motivated to add value ‘out-of-the-box' of their normal portfolios to secure additional business for the company. As a consequence we sustained previous patterns of growth and could reward high performers for their efforts.”

Kennedy says that patterns of client contact were further intensified and client offering was further improved with innovative solutions, not only through the appointment of new strategic staff with marketing and business skills, but also innovation in system and custom design stands.

“We were proactive in taking our total offering to the market place and hosted customers and opinion leaders at a two-day open house event which was a marketing initiative with huge cost implications but with good dividends. Our tradition of building long-term partnerships with clients was underscored when we again built the complete infrastructure for the Nedbank Golf Challenge - this time for the thirteenth year running.”

Kennedy says that the company does not perform with the aim to get awards and the receipt thereof merely serves as an indicator that the company is on the right track. Oasys received awards for the best supplier employee, best system stand, and silver award for their customer event in the category for ‘Memorable Events'. The passion that the employees have for the company was also evident on the evening of the annual EXSA awards when they received the award for the best dressed team.

During 2009 Kennedy's strategy of looking for new markets paid off when he struck a partnership with GL Events, a global leader for overlays and infrastructure for mega events such as Olympic Games and international sport festivals including the Confederations Cup, which was staged on local soil. As a consequence of its success, Kennedy was invited to the United Kingdom where he received the accolade of a gold award for the best supplier of overlays for sport events worldwide. Since the successful completion of that competition, the GL Oasys Consortium was formed and strategic GL employees with special portfolios moved into the Oasys premises to prepare for the supply of infrastructure for the world's largest soccer festival.

Says Kennedy: “Any company in any sector of commerce and industry can be successful on world markets. South Africa has entered the global stage some years ago and government and business has opened doors for many different types of suppliers. All we have to do is to be enterprising and grab every opportunity wherever that may exist.”
