Beauty attracts beauty

The beauty and wellness industry is one that has stood the test of time, showing marginal growth during the difficult months of 2009. The annual Professional Beauty Show was recently held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC); emphasising the success the industry has had during the past months.

Combining the beauty of Cape Town and the upmarket CTICC venue, formed the perfect combination to partner with the Professional Beauty in hosting this trade event. The show, aimed at professionals in the beauty industry, provided networking opportunities and exhibited the very latest in the beauty and wellness industry in South Africa.

Oasys Innovations supplied the infrastructure for the exhibition, which showcased the newest market trends, different manufacturers and show specials. The show also created a platform for professionals to network with fellow spa and salon owners and therapists. Seminars were held by IDI, SAAHSP and ITEC, to keep role players informed.

There was an increase in both services and retail turnover during September 2009, compared to September 2008, throughout the industry. The South African Beauty Index (SABI) documented their best month during September, which is a good indicator for the industry at large.

Says Graham Jeffery, Chief Operating Officer of Oasys Cape Town, “The industry shows impressive potential for growth, especially since they did so well during the recession. It is inspiring to see an industry's growth during the recession.”

“We are happy about the growth we have seen in the industry during the past year and the show was a reflection of this success. The rest of the year promises to be just as successful and we cannot wait for the other shows,” says Yolanda Knott, General Manager of Professional Beauty.

The Professional Beauty Show will be in Durban during May and will be hosted in Johannesburg in August.
