Social Media Intern

Highbury Media T/A Habari Media is a media powerhouse whose world-class titles connect brands to targeted audiences.
We are currently looking for a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Intern to join our Cape (Town) Etc. editorial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about social media, digital storytelling, news and content creation.

Key responsibilities

• Create and publish content across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
• Write engaging captions aligned with the Cape Town Etc brand voice.
• Design basic graphics, reels and stories using Canva and other approved tools.
• Source and edit photos and videos for social media content.
• Assist with live coverage of events, breaking news and community stories.
• Monitor and engage with our online community through comments, messages and mentions.
• Research trends, hashtags and content opportunities relevant to Cape Town and the Western Cape.
• Assist with social media reporting and performance tracking.
• Support journalists and editors in promoting articles and social-first content.

Requirements

• Strong written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
• Basic Canva and video editing skills.
• Interest in news, current affairs and digital media.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
• Creative thinker with a keen eye for engaging content.
