2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries voting is now open

Foodies who eat out every day may officially start voting for the 2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries. Reviews and star ratings from diners on the Eat Out app and the Eat Out website will determine which restaurants are considered for judging, in order to find the ultimate winners in a variety of categories.

Restauranteurs and chefs now have a mission – getting loyal customers to submit their ratings before the end of the review period on 31 July 2019. Reviewers stand the chance to win Eat Out hampers worth R1250 every two weeks. Plus, for every review submitted, Eat Out feeds a hungry child through Rise Against Hunger.

2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries voting is now open

This is the fifth year that the country’s favourite restaurants will be rewarded for their consistently good food, with results based on a 50/50 score from the public and Eat Out’s professional critics. The winners will be announced at events on 17 September in Johannesburg and 25 September in Cape Town.

Eat and rate

To vote for their favourite local eateries, restaurant-goers can download the Eat Out app or visit eatout.co.za to rate and review the restaurants they have visited in the last year. Diners can submit reviews for as many restaurants as they wish, but only one review per person per restaurant will be tallied.

The categories for the 2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries are: Best African-inspired Eatery, Best Asian-inspired Eatery, Best Bistro, Hellmann’s Best Burger Eatery, Best Coffee Shop, Best Country-Style Eatery, Best Indian-inspired Eatery, Best Italian-inspired Eatery, Best Seafood Eatery, Tramontina Best Steakhouse, Best Food Truck, Best Tapas Eatery and Best Mexican-inspired Eatery.

Public and Eat Out critics’ ratings from 1 September 2018 to 31 July 2019 will be tallied to determine a shortlist for each of the categories per province. If a critic has not recently been to a restaurant that received enough public reviews, critics will have the month of August to visit and review in order to determine the category winners.

“There’s nothing like nipping out to your favourite local eatery, where you know your favourite dishes will be consistently prepared the way you like them. We love the fine-dining heroes of the Eat Out Top 10, but these awards celebrate the everyday places whose great service, lovely food and friendly welcome keep us coming back again and again,” says Adelle Horler, editor-in-chief of New Media’s owned titles including Eat Out. “It’s also important that these awards are based on the opinions of the people who eat there the most. The Eat Out app, which is now one-year-old, makes it even easier for patrons to book and voice their admiration for their local food heroes.”

Restaurants need to be listed on eatout.co.za (and therefore the Eat Out app) to receive reviews and ratings. Restaurants that are not listed can go to eatout.co.za/venue-register/ to register or contact az.oc.tuotae@ofni to have their details added free of charge.
