I have a Masters degree in media and politics from UKZN, and have a passion for South African politics and economics. I am a skilled writer, communicator and all-round well organised person, and would like further employ this skill as I write on issues effecting communities both small and on a national scale. Aside from being dedicated to what I do, I am both confident and sociable in most situations, and am therefore willing to take on new challenges.
In March of this year I took the decision to resign from my previous position as Managing Editor for Weigh-Less Magazine. This decision was not taken lightly, and was brought on by the mutual decision to relocate to Johannesburg, so that my partner could pursue a fantastic job opportunity. For me, I saw this as a challenge to break the glass ceiling I had reached in the limited media environment in Durban, as well as a support to my partner.
In my position as managing editor at Weigh-Less Magazine, a national health and wellness publication, my duties and responsibilities included; editing, sub-editing, researching, writing feature articles, production management, traffic management, budget management and team management. The scope of my position extended beyond that of print, encompassing digital and social media. My time at Weigh-Less Magazine, having graduated from senior journalist to managing editor, reinforced my passion for content management, production, and for providing relevant information in the form of value-add content in order to make a difference in people's lives. Producing, and managing content for a purpose is what I do, and well.
In addition to my full-time responsibilities, I was and still am currently the editorial coordinator for an academic journal: Journal of African Cinemas. This is a bi-annual publication, published out of the UK (Intellect Books), with editors in Australia and South Africa (UKZN). In this position I coordinate the entire production process of the Journal. Some of my duties include editing, writing editorials and fundraising. As a result I have good connections at UKZN. I am also a freelance writer, and have worked on publications for the Copenhagen Post (Denmark). Managing several responsibilities is something that I have learnt to do well - being able to work to deadlines and work well under pressured circumstances, is something I am all too familiar with.
