Throughout his policing career Paul has been an active advocate for race equality and is the architect and past Chairman of the Metropolitan Black Police Association and latterly the National Black Police Association (UK).
In 2001 Paul experienced policy development at the most strategic level with a secondment to government where he worked on a key initiative in the UK Government's 'neighbourhood renewal strategy'. In 2003 Paul was awarded a Fulbright Police Research Fellowship to study the application of community based policing in minority ethnic communities in major US cities, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami.
In his final years in 'The Met' Paul was posted to a very challenging policing environment in south London, with lead responsibility for neighbourhood policing, partnership working arrangements, counter terrorism and community cohesion.
In 2011 Paul was invited to South Africa to discuss his concept for a community safety foundation to assist in mobilising under resourced communities to enhance their awareness and ability to work in partnership with service providers in order to strengthen the community's ability to 'fight crime'. This visit subsequently resulted in Paul's current position as founder and Chief Executive of the Safer South Africa Foundation.
Paul holds a Master of Science degree in Community Safety from the University of Leicester, UK.
