Re: Fifty-five years in broadcasting - and counting | |Senior communications posts
I am writing to introduce myself as a potential candidate for senior communications / marketing / PR posts that may arise at your company.
Celebrating 55 years in broadcasting and having built a track record in many diverse management disciplines, my experience and skills include a wide knowledge of commercial broadcasting, advertising, sales and management. I enjoy passing on skills to younger people. I am a team player and would like to work in a team environment where I would be able to contribute to the overall objectives of the organisation. My LinkedIn profile http://linkd.in/1IzYoFn provides full details about my career, which included heading the SABC's information department, official magazine and press liaison - all this during the difficult time that we launched television in South Africa. In 1985, I joined Gold Reef City as their first GM: communications.
As the anchor / founding presenter of the SABC'S iconic television nature programme, 50/50, between 1986 and 2006, I played a crucial role in popularising environmental broadcasting in South Africa and helped to foster a love for nature in homes throughout the country.
In the 1990s, I was the chairman of the National Film and Video Foundation, an influential industry association. Later, I left to start EnviroWorld Productions, which I still own and run. I also consult to companies about their image as environmentally responsible corporate citizens. In the same decade, I launched Radio Safari, the first and to date only South African radio station dedicated to environmental broadcasting.
You will note that I have advanced staff motivational skills and the vision to generate and maintain a company's profile and its relationships with all of its stakeholders. Most of all, my career shows my flexibility in that I am able to fit into any new environment and contribute positively to forming and implementing shared company objectives.
You may wonder why someone my age is still prepared to throw his hat in the ring. The answer is simple: Life is too exciting and interesting to accept society's preconceptions that those over 60 should go off quietly without disturbing the landscape. I have left transformed landscapes behind me all my life - hugely changed for the beter (including during my years as 50/50 producer and presenter) - and I don't intend to stop anytime soon.
I would love the chance to bring what is needed from all this to your company.
Please find attached my CV for your reference.
Sincerely
André Walters
