The collectible toy market is getting a miniature fashion makeover as Minnee by Zuru, billed as the world’s smallest poseable fashion doll in a blind-box format, prepares to launch in South Africa this September.

At just 10cm tall, Minnee combines fashion-doll play with the surprise and collectability of blind-box toys. The product is expected to retail for approximately R299, positioning it within an accessible price point for consumers looking to participate in the growing collectibles trend.
Each blind box contains one of nine fashion-focused characters, with individual personalities, outfits and accessories. Collectors can also search for an ultra-rare gold Minnee, with odds of one in 128.
Miniature product, full fashion experience
While compact in size, Minnee has been designed to retain many of the features associated with larger fashion dolls.
Each doll features 14 to 16 points of articulation, fully rooted and brushable hair, real fabric clothing and more than 20 accessories and styling surprises.
The combination is designed to position Minnee across several areas of the toy market, from traditional fashion play and creative storytelling to collecting, customisation and display.
“Minnee proves that incredible things really do come in small packages,” says Glenn Ambrose, country manager at Zuru. “She's a premium fashion doll experience unlike anything currently available.”
Rather than simply purchasing a specific character, consumers discover their doll through the blind-box format, making the unboxing itself part of the product experience.
The retail appeal of the blind box
The launch comes as collectible culture continues to influence the toy category, with surprise-based products gaining traction both in physical retail and through social media.
For retailers, blind-box products offer a different proposition from conventional toys because the purchase can encourage repeat collecting. Consumers may return to find additional characters, accessories or rare editions, while social content around unboxings can extend the experience beyond the shelf.
“The launch taps into one of the fastest-growing trends in the toy industry,” says Ambrose. “Blind-box collectibles continue to dominate global toy aisles and social media, where the surprise reveal has become entertainment in itself.”
Minnee's fashion positioning adds another layer, allowing consumers to style characters and share their collections online.
From social buzz to South African shelves
Zuru has built anticipation for Minnee through a social-first launch strategy, with fan accounts, influencer unboxings and collector content helping to generate interest ahead of wider availability.
Since its international debut, Minnee-related content has accumulated millions of views across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, while collectors have shared unboxing videos, styling ideas and display inspiration.
That digital momentum could prove important as the product enters the South African market, where social media increasingly influences how younger consumers discover products and how collectible communities build around them.
The format also lends itself naturally to user-generated content: consumers can reveal their character, compare collections, showcase rare finds and experiment with different styling combinations.
A new proposition for fashion-doll shoppers
For Zuru, Minnee represents an opportunity to bring together two established consumer behaviours – fashion play and collectible discovery – within a single product.
“Whether you're discovering your favourite character, styling new looks or chasing the ultra-rare gold edition, every unboxing delivers genuine excitement,” Ambrose says.
The South African launch will see the miniature dolls move from international collector feeds into local toy aisles from September 2026, giving retailers another product through which to tap into the continued convergence of toys, collectibles, fashion and social media culture.
“Minnee proves that size has nothing to do with imagination; these small girls really create big worlds,” Ambrose adds. “She's the world's smallest fashion doll, but every character inspires a world of creativity, storytelling and self-expression, and that's what makes her so special.”
