Nils Heckscher new FEDHASA Cape chairman

At the first Annual General Meeting of the new FEDHASA Cape, Nils Heckscher, MD of Winchester Mansions Hotel was elected chairman of the board. The board further consists of Tony Romer-Lee, GM of Cape Grace who will head the Hotel segment.

Mike Mills of Belvidere Manor in Knysna will be responsible for the smaller accommodation segment. Roy de Goveia, Partner in Wasabi and Wakame Restaurants and Michelle De Witt, of Horwath Consulting head the restaurant and supplier segments respectively. The Board members will each create a segment-board to ensure the effective running of their segments. This will allow them to stay relevant to members in the respective spheres of our varied industry.

Since 1 March 2004 Fedhasa has introduced a more regional focus whereby Fedhasa Cape operates largely independently from the Fedhasa National Office as a Section 21 Company.

"We are the voice of the hospitality and lobby and engage government on a local as well as national level on issues ranging from school holidays to how our country is marketed. We see ourselves as the unifying partner for our industry. We provide many tangible benefits and are playing a valuable role in helping to transform our industry for the benefit of all," says Heckscher.

The immediate past chairman, Neil Markowitz has agreed to stay on the board to provide guidance as well as a much-needed link to among others Cape Town Routes Unlimited, of which he is a board member.
